What income will I earn
- An Educators income will depend on the number of children they have in care and their hours/days of care, while meeting license requirements. An Educator can also set their on fees.
Are Educators employed by the Scheme
- Educators approved by Communities@Work are self-employed and run their own business from home.
What support will I get as an Educator?
- The support by the team in the Coordination Unit ensures that carers are resourced, trained and up-to-date with current child care practices.
- Educators have access to scheme playgroups, a toy and puzzle library, some equipment (for short term loan) and In-service training.
- Educators also have access to a National Insurance Plan through Family Day Care Australia website.
What is the role of the coordination unit
The coordination unit manages and supports the provision of quality child care by:
- assisting families to access child care and providing on-going advice, information and support to families
- recruiting, training and providing on-going support to Educators
- encouraging communication between Scheme staff, families and Educators
- keeping up to date with current practice and directions in child care, and
- administering Scheme policies and procedures and Australian and ACT government requirements.
What are the requirements for approval as an Educator
Approved Educator in the programme are required to;
- Undergo an assessment interview,
- Provide referees
- Have a Police Records Check for themselves and other adults in their household.
- Complete a home safety assessment
- Successfully complete an Orientation Course
- Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate.
